Teaching Observation Format



Opening


  • A brief greeting and thank you for the opportunity to observe.
  • A summary of the overall agenda and lesson plan.
  • A discussion of how the instructor began class and initiated the main activities.

Body

You can describe and comment on the following:


  • The instructor's relationship and itneractions with students.
  • The organization and format of the class (miniature lecture, discussion, group work, etc)
  • Readings or videos used for course content.
  • Students comments to each other during groupwork and class discussion.
  • The instructor's activities--how they facilitate discussion and group work, how they monitor student progress, how they respond to questions.

Conclusion


  • A summary of what worked well in the class.
  • Articulation of questions you had about the lesson and format
  • Recommendations or tips they might consider in the future.
